The "Basic Competency Assessments"
(BCA) is a project intended for facilitating learning
and teaching at schools. It is low-stakes in nature.
It is not a public examination and not related to allocation
of S1 places.
The BCA comprises two parts, namely
"Student Assessment" and "System Assessment".
The main purpose of this Web page is to introduce the
"Student Assessment".
The "Student Assessment"
aims at providing schools with an additional assessment
tool. Teachers can conduct this assessment according
to their student needs and learning progress. The assessment
can be flexibly used with other assessment tools at
schools so that the effectiveness of student learning
would be enhanced. The features of the "Student
Assessment" include:
- A web-based central assessment item
bank
- Online assessments
- Computer marking and instant reports
on students' performance
In order to raise learning and teaching
effectiveness, the Education Bureau will provide
"Web-based Learning and Teaching Support"
for schools according to the analyses and reports of
students' performance in the "Student Assessment".
The development of the "Web-based Learning and
Teaching Support" is in progress. Based on the
online assessment results and their knowledge about
the students by at large, teachers can provide appropriate
follow-ups to enhance student learning.
The "Student Assessment"
will be implemented gradually from Primary 1 to Secondary
3, covering Chinese, English and Mathematics. The assessment
items are designed according to the "Basic Competency"
(BC) of different "Key Stages" (Trial Version).
